Jesus Christ, King of Comedy

Bryan Colley

This is Bryan's first play at the Kansas City Fringe Festival but hopefully not his last. Bryan is a founding member of the Kansas City Screenwriters and was president of the Just Off Broadway Theatre Association from 2002-2004, where he established the Playwrights Festival of Kansas City. His first play, The Feast, was produced in 1998 by Gorilla Theatre (with George Forbes and Michelle Cotton in the cast) and the following year he directed Eugene O'Neill's The Hairy Ape. His most recent play was a spoof of Dashiell Hammett's Maltese Falcon for the Johnson County Library's Big Read. In real life he is a graphic designer for the AAFP and is part of the editorial staff of KC Stage Magazine. He would like to thank ABC-TV for all their love and support, as well as this awesome cast.

Michelle Cotton

Yea it is written that Michelle has worked with almost everybody in the cast before and lo she can attest to their brilliance. Verily I say unto thee that Michelle has been doing theatre for 15 years, with companies like Theatre for Young Audiences, The Mystery Train, Gorilla Theatre, Mind's Eye Theatre, Olathe Community Theatre, and many others. Favorite unholy and holy roles include Lady Natalia in The Feast, Agnes in Agnes of God, Catherine in Proof and Killaine in The Clearing. Michelle is also a songwriter and voice-over artist. Michelle is excited to be on the Fringe this year and hopes our show is as funny as the Bible.

George Forbes

George has be performing for local audiences for over twelve years. He has been seen at the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival, Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre, and Gorilla Theatre. Some of his memorable performances include the father in the Coterie's production of The Watsons Go to Birmingham, Satchel Paige in the Theatre for Young America production of Monarchs of Kansas City, and Walter Lee in InPlay's A Raisin in the Sun. As an understudy he has also performed in the Kansas City Repertory's production of Joe Turner's Come and Gone.

Susan Glennemeier

Susan has had the pleasure of working with Tara, Bryan, and Michelle a number of times, including To Die For Want of Lobster at the Just Off Broadway Theater and the Mystery Mayhem kick off for The Big Read, The Maltese Murder. She has worked with Civic Opera of Kansas City, including the role of Fosca in Sondheim’s Passion. She has understudied several roles for Kansas City Repertory Theatre, and appeared in the ensemble of the premiere of Worksong. When Union Station’s City Stage opened in 1999 she performed the one-woman show Union Station Stories. She lives in KC with her husband David, two very cute children, three cats, and a dog. When she is not called by the actor bat-signal to save humanity, she disguises herself as a mild-mannered children’s librarian. Do not dis Harry Potter in her presence. You have been warned.

Charlotte Kyle

Charlotte is thrilled to be back on stage working with some of her UMKC theater classmates and/or Union Station and/or Entelechy posses again. Some of her favorite roles were in Kansas City including Estelle in No Exit and Greti in Metamorphosis. In addition to acting, Charlotte has worked in film and television production as a a production secretary for a Mel Gibson-produced film, a press and winner escort at the Academy Awards, and a personal assistant to the second unit director and stunt coordinator on all three Pirates of the Caribbean films. She recently returned from Los Angeles to form 2sDay Productions, Inc., a social outreach video & film production company.

Nick Uthoff

Nick is really excited to be working for Kansas City Fringe Festival for the second year. Last year he was a technical director at the Just Off Broadway Theatre and is changing hats to perform in Jesus Christ, King of Comedy! Nick has worked with Tara on such productions as Dog Sees God and Hedwig and the Angry Inch with Eubank Productions and is really excited to be working with her again to bring this wonderful play to life. Nick makes a living as a freelance theatre technician bouncing around from the Kansas City Repertory, American Heartland Theatre, Unicorn Theatre, New Theatre Restaurant, Kansas City Shakespeare Festival, Gem Theatre and the Just Off Center Theatre. He has also appeared as Simon Stride in Jekyll and Hyde and Odell in Sordid Lives, both at the Just Off Broadway Theatre. He hopes everyone enjoys the show and gets a chance to see all the other wonderful productions the Fringe Festival makes possible. He would like to say thanks to the compound for their ever vigilant support! Love ya'll!

Tara Varney

Tara is thrilled to be directing this holy play for the Fringe Festival. Well, thrilled might be overstating things a bit. She's more "fired up" bordering on "atingle". Tara recently directed The Maltese Murder for the Johnson County Library and stage managed Hedwig and the Angry Inch for Eubank Productions. As an actor she has appeared as Goldie in Two by Two and Becky in Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up? at the Chestnut Fine Arts Center, Flopsy in Peter Rabbit and Mrs./ Grandma Miller in Junie B. Jones at Theatre for Young America, and Daria and the Goat in Wild Goat at Theatre League's Festival of New Musicals. Some of her favorite past roles have been Agnes in I Do! I Do!, Percy in Spitfire Grill, Sister Hubert in Nunsense, Kathy and/or Mo in The Kathy and Mo Show, and Agnes in Dancing at Lughnasa. She has been a Dickens Caroler since 2004 and currently teaches theatre for the Coterie. Many, many thanks to this wonderful cast, the Fringe Festival, the Varney Village, ABC and Bryan.
